New Brunswick Actress, and Corey Haim’s last Leading Lady, Heads To Cannes

Angela Cullins Will Travel To Film Festival To Promote Her New Movie American Sunset, Corey Haim’s final film

Press Release – FREDERICTON, NB, May 14, 2010 – Canadian award-winning actress Angela Cullins is excited about promoting her yet-to-be released movie American Sunset at the Cannes film festival later this month.
Being an official entry at the festival, the movie will be shown to select distributors and critics for promotion ahead of its release in North America and abroad later this year.

Movie distributor ID Communications Inc. from Montreal will be showing the film as part of the
“I’m looking mainly at attending to promote our film at the festival, on behalf of Corey,” Cullins said.
The movie, whose star-studded cast also includes the late Corey Haim and Frank Molina, is a roller coaster ride of a thriller where Corey Haim (Tom) awakens to find his wife missing. A call from a kidnapper, 6 clues and 24 hours to find her, the game is on to rescue Angelina Cullins (Samantha).

“I’m deeply saddened that Corey won’t be leading the charge in promoting this, his last film,” Cullins said.
Cullins and Haim became very close during the shooting of the film and afterwards. She suggests it was “method-acting”, art imitating life.

“Our characters were turning into our reality. We acted the roles in real life. We had something special. And he meant the world to me,” Cullins said. Cullins learned a great deal about the business from Haim, and he became her mentor.
“Corey truly was a gifted actor – one of a kind. He was intrigued by me because I was not part of the Hollywood establishment. He was really tired of the scene and wanted to protect me from it,” Cullins said.

Cullins wants to keep the spirit of Corey alive by helping promote American Sunset and spreading the positive word about the “real” Corey, and not the “Hollywood” persona.

“Corey was a loving, dearly talented man, who had finally come out of his darkness, and was beginning to conquer his demons. He was ready for his true potential. And this film was just the beginning.”

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is excited to bring the Heart Truth Fashion Gala to life once again in New Brunswick on March 27, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fredericton starting at 8:00pm. The runway will feature twenty of New Brunswick’s most dynamic and celebrated women. Each dress created will be designed by alumni from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, and will be as unique as the woman who wears it! “I had no idea, when I was approached last fall, to take part in The Heart Truth Fashion Show, how near and dear to my heart this event would become”, Angela states. “With the recent loss of Corey (Angela’s co star, in the soon to be released film American Sunset), and knowing how much he had struggled with his heart condition, I feel an even greater purpose now for my participation in this event.”

Angela will be wearing a uniquely crafted, one of a kind, red dress by fashion designer Monique Theriault.

Corey Haim (1971-2010)

To address the many requests from media for a statement regarding my thoughts and reaction to the passing of Corey Haim, this is my official statement:

Today the world lost a talented actor, and many of us have lost a friend.

Corey was a tortured but beautiful soul, and he will be missed.  I feel lucky to have had the chance to work beside him on American Sunset.  I cherish our memories and will think of him often.  I learned so much from, and about Corey during the time we spent together.  We connected on a deep and intimate level, allowing me to see a side to Corey that I believe not many people had the opportunity to see.  We had our ups and downs but were always dear to one another, through it all.  Tumultuous but special…that is what it was.  A silent understanding of “us”, which came along with the accepting of the good, the bad, and the ugly…as we used to say.  My experience with Corey was not one that will be forgotten any time soon.  He left way too early, but I take solice in the fact that he is now free.

Rest in Peace Corey.

Las Vegas – 2010 – Posted by Angela

Las Vegas 2010

by Angela Cullins

People are wonderful beings.  Each one has a story.  A story that will likely never be told.  It’s a beautiful, and mysterious thing…Life.

The guy here for the World Of Concrete convention that just decided to walk over to say hello and volunteered that his 14 year old daughter  wants to be an actress, from Charleston, South Carolina, her name is Sarah…with an “H”.

The cocktail waitress wearing the barely there uniform, Claudia, who brought me my wine.  The couple across the way sitting quietly in the chaos with legs crossed, hands in pockets who have been sitting forever and never touched their drinks.  The girl to the left of me sipping a dirty martini in jeans and a black sweater vest, alone, seemingly to pretend that she is watching and interested in the Miami vs Boston basketball game on the giant tv screen in front of us, glass held high.

I can’t help but wonder what they were doing an hour ago.  Getting ready?  On the phone home?  Driving here with anticipation?  A fight with a significant other?  Who are they?  What is THEIR STORY?

Why are they here?  I know why I am here.  Are they wondering about me as I sit and wonder about them?  That’s the beautiful mystery of life that we will most likely never know.  What, why, when, and where.

What is it about Vegas?  People get so charged with the thought of it.  Why?  This is the one unique place in the world where people feel completely free and whatever happens is

always acceptable…always.  It is a given that memories will be lasting and crazy.  Its as if when you go to Vegas you’d better take some secrets or evils home with you or you have failed.  The only place on earth where everything goes…ANYTHING goes.  Sex, drugs, adultery, rock n roll!!  Bring it on!!  People do things they would never dream of doing at home or anywhere else for that matter.  I guess that’s why it’s called “Sin City”.  What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas right?  That’s the word on the street anyways.

To be a Blonde…or Brunette?

I went to a hair stylist yesterday being my normal blonde self, then walked out as a strange brunette. I am experiencing some mixed feelings about the situation. I have never had dark hair…nor have I dared to try. Every time I look in the mirror I have to do a double take. Who is this? I mean dont get me wrong, I LOVE mirrors, lol but today I don’t love them so much. Maybe if I don’t see it, it isn’t real?? Alas…we all know that theory never works, too bad. (That would be awesome.)
Hmmm. I am giving it until monday then reassessing the situation. Will I be back to blonde by tuesday? Or will this head of hair grow on me enough to keep it? It is fall afterall.
Ultimately…who am I kidding, its all going to depend on the reaction I get from people over the next few days!!! Yes, sadly that will be my deciding factor. I can’t help it, I just don’t feel as pretty as I did blonde…yet.

Life Is Good.

After months of waiting , the premiere of American Sunset is finally within reach!   This is very exciting for me, as it is my first feature film, in a leading role with Corey Haim.  Filming was a crazy adventure with a ton of memorable moments and lessons learned , let me tell you…I got “educated” in ways that I couldnt have imagined!  Things got pretty crazy at times.  (unfortunately no stories can be shared at this point in time BUT I am armed with many haha) . Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing, or trade a single moment of it all.  Afterall, I was making a movie!  A MOVIE with a former Hollywood A-lister, as leading male!

Having filmed on location in New Brunswick is especially exciting as I got to share so much of my experience and emotions with those I love the most, in my home province.  It isnt often, actually never until now, that a movie filmed here has had a theatrical release and I am so proud to be a part of it.  You have no idea how satisfying it is to look in the mirror and say, YOU DID IT.  It didnt come without sacrifice…no no no, there was plenty of that to get here!  It isn’t easy having such big dreams, being from a small town.  The odds are stacked against you from the beginning…or so you are made to think!  Its easy to take the safe road.  I walked away from a successful massage therapy practice ($$$$) to become the starving actress in a big city all alone!  A lot of people didnt understand and called me crazy.  I couldn’t ignore that gnawing feeling inside of me that was just never satisfied…ever,  I had to make a decision.  My decision was to take the chance and risk it all,( it was either that or my sanity, lol).

Its been an interesting ride to say the least.  A world of adventures and random moments that you wouldn’t believe,  from an “Indecent Proposal” (you know, Woody&Demi?) while stranded in Jamaica from a local millionaire, to being chased around by a famous designer/ ex boyfriend of Anna Nicole Smith, while on a date with a n NBA star at a red tie affair…sorry, no names.

I’ve established that the old familiar saying is actually true afterall…its the journey, not the destination that counts the most!   Or something like that.   You get it.  I am the luckiest girl in the world right now…and of course, the happiest.  I thank the universe every day for my life.  I wonder what will happen tomorrow?

Cheers!
